Module Description: This session will focus on how leaders can build and foster effective teams, as well as teamwork’s impact on the success of organizations. Participants will learn about team building, team dynamics, and the leader’s role in ensuring that teams function at high levels, and they will utilize current research, large and small group discussions, and scenarios to develop understandings that can be applied to their specific contexts.
The Presenter: Bill Barnes, Ed.D., Superintendent for Grand Ledge Public Schools. From 2019 to 2022 he was the assistant superintendent for academic services with Grand Ledge schools. Prior to that role, he was the principal at Charlotte High School for eight years, where he was an English and math teacher, writing coach, football coach, forensics advisor, English department chair, and an interventionist for at risk students before taking on the principal role. He started his career as a math teacher at Lansing Eastern High School. Bill earned a bachelor’s degree in English with a math minor and secondary teaching emphasis from Western Michigan University in 2005, a master’s degree in K-12 administration in 2010 from Michigan State University, and an educational doctorate in educational leadership, also from MSU, in 2015. He has been an adjunct instructor at Michigan State University, a Michigan Educator’s Voice Fellow, and he has served on multiple state committees for the Michigan Department of Education.
Bill was the 2017 CanDo! chair and was active with CharlotteRising, Love Charlotte, and the CanDo! youth pillar in his time in Charlotte. In Grand Ledge, Bill is a member of the Grand Ledge Kiwanis Club, a commissioner on the Grand Ledge Parks and Recreation Committee, active with Grand Ledge United, and the chair of the Capital Area College Access Network board of directors. Bill is originally from Grand Ledge, and he has a wife, Erinn, and two daughters, Ellee and Natalee.
